In Part 2 of today’s Mobile News, we have some rumours about the iPhone 5 and the iPad 3 as well as a bit from Samsung and from Sony just before a French carrier stirs the mobile phone deals pot.

Curious? Read on.

Apple Rumours

Some sources are a bit more reliable than others, and one of the top shelf sources – Morgan Stanley Investment Bank – just snuck some news about a

“slimmer iPhone 5”

…in the Autumn release and added the morsel for iPad fans that the iPad 3 with a higher resolution than iPad 2 just may well be out around mid-year.

The direct quote from the source reads:

“Apple will also launch iPad 3 in H1 and a slimmer iPhone later this year.”

Considering the delays in the iPhone 5′s release dates … and dates … and dates, we can’t vouch for the absolute verity of this information, but at least it’s from a source that historically has been very accurate.

Sony Xperia S Marches In

Formerly known as Nozomi, the Sony Xperia S is due to hit shelves in March – at least in the US. At least that means it may become available in the EU and elsewhere later this year – good news to all!

Samsung Considers Tie with Olympus

Olympus has suffered tremendous backlash for a cover-up of bad investments since the news was broken in October. Stock prices have plummeted even farther as the official investigation started recently, which could lead to criminal charges against several officers of the company.

Samsung has given indication that they are at least considering ties with Olympus. Their statement includes the definitive confirmation of the possibility:

“We are open to the possibility of an alliance with Olympus.”

The Korean firm was quick to add that there is no negotiation in progress with the Japanese firm, and the only thing definite is the consideration of the possibility.

French Service Provider Stirs Plan Pot

Just as we familiarize ourselves with the various new plans from service providers, up jumps the French service provider, Illiad’s Free Mobile, stirs the pot.

Free Mobile has announced an

“unlimited everything”

…plan for only 20 Euro, about $25 a month, although “unlimited” becomes “not so unlimited” after 3GB of data transfer each month.

The best parts are that no contract is required: It’s a PayGo plan, and it beats every other provider that comes to mind.
